God's Village People

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.” – Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10a

I had often heard the phrase It takes a village. Yet, I had no idea how God would one day use those four simple words to change my life.

When my world suddenly changed in an instant from a life-altering accident, I did not have the luxury of waiting around for God to answer Why me, God? Instead, I quickly adopted a mindset of How God? How do I do this? How am I supposed to take care of my home, my finances, and my health?

As a single, childless, self-employed, and now handicapped woman, I desperately needed God’s protection. I had no idea what that would look like, but God had a plan - an awesome plan!

Even before I was conscious, God was at work gathering and preparing countless people who would become part of my village people. Some were caretakers, some remodeled my house for accessibility, some cooked, some cleaned, many were encouragers, and all were prayer warriors.

God not only protected and provided for my physical needs, but more importantly, He protected my emotional and mental well being. His priceless protection cradled my broken life.

As hard as we may try, nobody can make it in this world alone. God created us for relationships. We need Him, and we need each other. King David’s son, Solomon, wrote that a three-fold cord is not easily broken. It is true, we are stronger together. When God is the anchor that holds us together, His protection is unyielding.

Some of God’s village people were in my life for a season, and some for a particular reason, while others have become lifetime members. Regardless of stage, every single person is a precious, chosen gift from God.

God knows our needs before we do. He keeps us from harm and watches over us. What a blessing to be under His mighty wing of protection.

Amen!
